Opening Title Scene

17 Jan

Greetings!

As promised, I am posting the opening SHORT FILM that was shown at the beginning of each night’s performance of OLIVER TWISTING. As you may recall, this Live Play included all LIVE MUSIC as well as 5 SHORT FILMS shown on two very large widescreens on either side of the front wall above the stage.

We got many comments on how people enjoyed these films as well as the play itself of course. We are quickly producing a DVD copy of one of the nights that was professionally videotaped, and included on that DVD will be the 5 films. Keep in touch as we will selling these dvds very soon!

Behind the Scenes

15 Oct

Well what a week it has been!

Practices are going GREAT! The cast are more prepared than any play I can ever remember this early into things. And with a cast this large (60 plus) it is really amazing that all parts are filled and we have backups waiting for a chance if someone pulls out (which of course we hope will not happen).

I and we continue to appreciate and covet your prayers during this season. We do feel the heavenly battle. This message is so very timely. OLIVER TWIST might be a classic story, but the topic of human trafficing and neglected children could never be more contemporary and appropriate.

I told you that we would be posting behind the scenes pictures and even videos. We are going to begin a “making of” video that will post on youtube so be ready for that.

This is a miniature model of the horse drawn carriage that opens the first film (there are 5 60 second film segments interwoven into the live play).

Auditions

23 Aug

We had our first Auditions session for Oliver Twisting last Tuesday night.

Wow!

Usually we have 10 or so per audition when we start a new play season. Last Tuesday, we had 21 show, plus several parents of teens. We had over 10 teenagers and 5 or more elementary age kids show up!

Not only was it great to see that many show up, but many who came were very skilled and a few were absolutely brilliant! I cannot wait to see them on stage for this play!

We really encouraged these auditioneers to be as animated and serious as possible. They focused and really gave their best. On the other hand, there was so much energy and excitement, I could hardly keep people in their seats. This is a good sign. 🙂

I also encouraged these new actors to read the original OLIVER TWIST novel by Charles Dickens. If you get some time, maybe you could check it out as well. You can even read it online for free since it is long since been in public domain. And of course you can buy a ebook or paperback copy.

Oliver lived in a very difficult world. He was poor, and he was an orphan. At that time (England in the 1840’s) he would have been the lowest of the low. People really treated young, poor orphans with disgust. Sorry to say, the religious establishment sometimes treated them even worse than society as a whole.

The journey Oliver takes is not a light one. There are troubling situations and yet, there is a divine touch to this story – somehow, even Oliver has a destiny. But in order to find it, he must survive many hardships, tests, and harrowing situations.

I pray and hope that this play will inspire and encourage, and convict.

Pray for us as we move into alot of rehearsing and practicing!

Until next time…

P Jeff
